I Walk The Line

Welcome to Crescent & 13th! My boyfriend, Saul Goode, and I began this blog some months ago with the intention of creating a space that featured a young 'urban' couple sharing stories about their lives, as a couple and as individuals, but we've been stuck in 'Now What?' mode. It was a challenge to come up with a topic that would serve as an introduction to us and to the blog... until now.

This week I watched Walk The Line again and despite Reese Witherspoon, it still was a fantastic movie.
I mean...I think we can ALL agree Reese is hella annoying... Like look:

Exhibit A. Douche Hat

Exhibit B. Ominous and offensive teeth

Exhibit....do I even need to point it out?

Walk The Line is a great love story with the added benefit of featuring amazing music, especially for a closet Mumford & Sons, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Dixie Chick, banjo lovin' negro like me. I was in heaven. But the song that resonated the most was the title track.

Once you get past the twangy upbeat tempo of  "I Walk The Line", you recognize it encaptures the simplicity and truth of love.

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine, I walk the line

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine, I walk the line

You've got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can't hide
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

Like Mr. Cash, I too kept a very close watch on my heart and all things related. Being in love, shoot, even being in like is a scary thing to do. Now we live in a world where every emotion is ripe for social media ridicule and 'The Thirst' checks. So much is at stake, but there are so many of us who live the "Keep Your Heart 3stacks" life, we end up missing our blessings.

To me, this is what this song represents. How much are you willing to risk for love?
